Historians will note that it was once not unusual for the “Stray Horse” name to grace the Super standings. But these days, Nagel’s nag is outfitted for single-charger Light Pro competition. So what happened? Well, the “Horse”’s teammate, David Henderson’s “Stray Horse Gone Wild,” won Ellsworth in June and the afternoon session at Norwalk in August. But it pulled up lame and had to scratch from that night’s race, while the tractor that finished third in Curdtown, the Degenhardts’ “Diggin’ Hard,” withdrew from both sessions. Hence, on the strength of a fourth, third, and second, the original demonstrator-white “Stray Horse” earned the title.
